I am a professor in the political science department at The University of Michigan. I've been teaching and writing about international politics since I finished my PhD in 1993. Before that I went to college at Cornell University (and very briefly at the University of Chicago...but that's a long story). During an extended hiatus from my days as a member of the Big Red Heavyweight Crew, I served as a communications specialist (18E3) in the US Army (ODA 072 A-3-10).

These days I spend my time teaching classes on International Politics, writing on a variety of security related topics, taking pictures, following the number 24 car, and looking forward to spending time with my family.

You'll find a variety of professional and recreational bits on these pages. If you're trying to track down data used in my work, don't hesitate to contact me by email: stam at umich dot edu.
