Bit of Bradford History
"The Brigantes"
were so far as recorded in History the
Aboriginal Inhabitants of the Bradford Area.
In Saxon times Bradford was a small village by a river crossing called a Ford, Brad meant Broad.
It became known as the Village with the(Broad"Ford)..
As the village began to grow. the people were allowed to have a weekly Market .And it soon became a busy Town.
.....................................................................................................
In the Doomsday book 1086 Bradford had less than 1000 people.

Bradford over the years has changed big time, lots of fantastic buildings have been destroyed
and lost forever . A once vibrant City is Now a shadow of its former self.
On this site we can take a look back at the wonderful Buildings , Suburbs and People.

In 1846, George Weerth, a young German on holiday in England, described Bradford in a far from positive light in an article he wrote for a German newspaper: "In Bradford, however, you think you have been lodged with the devil incarnate. If anyone wants to feel how a poor sinner is tormented in Purgatory, let him travel to Bradford."
