Abbi studied music at Royal Holloway, University of London and Trinity College of Music. Supported by vocal department and choral scholarships, she studied with Hazel Wood, Robert Aldwinckle & Eugene Asti and took part in masterclasses with Michael Chance and Emma Kirkby.
Equally at home on stage or on the concert platform, Abbi's recent opera roles have included Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro - Dorset Productions), Amore (Gluck Orfeo ed Euridice - Dorset Productions), 2nd Woman (Dido & Aeneas - Opera Project), Mustardseed (A Midsummer Night's Dream - Longborough Festival), Zerlina (Don Giovanni - Candlelight Opera), Despina (Cosi fan tutte - Candlelight Opera) and Musetta (La Boheme - Candlelight Opera). Previous roles have included Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Polly Peachum (The Beggar's Opera), Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Giannetta (L'Elisir d'Amore), Euridice (L'Orfeo), Belinda (Dido & Aeneas) and Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro). As a full-time member of the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Abbi works regularly in Ireland, under the musical direction of Paul Hillier. She also sings with various UK and European Ensembles, recently working with Coro Casa da Musica Porto, The Gabrieli Consort, Ars Nova Copenhagen, Theatre of Voices, The English Concert, English Voices and La Grande Chapelle. As a member of the Schoolhouse Six Ensemble in 2010 she toured the UK and Germany performing Julian Marshall's new Cantata "Out of the Darkness". Abbi is also an experienced Oratorio soloist, recent performances including CPE Bach Magnificat and Beethoven Mass in C (Hoddinott Hall, Cardiff), Vivaldi Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera (Wimborne Minster) and Bach B Minor Mass (Christchurch Priory).
Current and forthcoming projects include tours with the National Chamber Choir of Irleand, Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony, Zerlina (in Mozart's Don Giovanni) for Dorset Productions, projects with Coro Casa da Musica Porto and the role of Tess in a concert performance of D'Erlanger's opera Tess (based on Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles). |
