My Homemade PowerPoint Game is called "NIght Shift Mayhem." In the game the student takes the role of the hospital supervisor during a busy twelve hour night shift. The house supervisor is constantly approached by new interns with questions relating to the hospital's safety precautions and procedures. The goal of the game is answer the questions in order to gain "hours". The first player with twelve hours to return to the "Report Room" wins. For more details or to play the game, click here.
"Night Shift Mayhem" can be utilized to teach the Healthcare Science Technology standards for safety procedures and precautions in a healthcare setting. This is usually not a very interesting standard, but teaching it through the game will hopefully make student's more interested in the objectives. Another objective that is introduced in the game is infection control. Safety is usually a segue into infection control, so I introduced concepts that were consistent with applications of safety precautions. |
