Branding "Duiliu"
My name is Alexandru Niculae Duiliu Zamfirescu. "Zamfirescu" is pronounced as in "zum-phireskoo." Just call me "Mr. Z" if that's too hard. I was born in Bucharest Romania. Since 1987 I live in Palo Alto, California. "Zamfirescu" is not a rare name in my home land, so maybe that's why my grand father insisted to add "Duiliu" to our names. It was his father's first name. It became like a family brand, pushed by the notoriety of Duiliu Zamfirescu, who is a Romanian literature classic, and a known political figure. My aunt whom I called "Tanti Sanda" even wrote a book in English about Zamfirescu. Everybody's "Duiliu" in our family, my sister Ioana Duilia, my Parisian cousin Nicolas Duiliu Zamfirescu, my father Lascar Duiliu Zamfirescu, some might say we are all "DeeZee." ...
