and here I sit so patiently

waiting to find out what price you have to pay to get out of going through all these things twice. ... As a girl of three of four this song was a frightening mystery to me. I would listen to it on my father's record-player in the bedroom (being careful, oh so careful, not to hurt it - there were spankings in the breakings) and feel so sad for poor Mr. Dylan, who was stuck "inside'a mo'beal" (which, to me, was just a fancy grown-up way of saying "mo'bile") with the Memphis blues again (again? how awful! how did he get stuck there the first time?) and just couldn't get out. His story seemed so bleak to me: this lonely grown-up man going round and round (astride his old-fashioned motorcycle), forever miniaturized in some child's toy, hanging above a crib in an empty room somewhere with no one there to hear him, clad in faded denim jeans and jacket (known as "Memphis blues" to three-year-olds In The Know) unable to do anything but think about all the sad things that had happened to him, and call out to his Mama to save him. I agonized over his fate for (a day? a week? an hour? whatever passes for a long time to a child that age) some time before finally taking the matter to my Papa - my resident source for all things Dylan. Tearfully, I asked him if there wasn't some way for Mr. Dylan to get out of the mobile. He looked at me oddly (touched, perhaps, by my fervent Bob Dylan-oriented empathy?) and said Well I don't know, Roma. That's something he had to work out on his own, I think. I said that it was too bad. Papa agreed. And that was that.

New Toy(s)

For my birthday I got a little weird on eBay and bought a "lot" of Minolta manual camera lenses (4 total with a Vivitar 2x extension tube included). Separately I bought a Canon EOS body to Minolta MC/MD lens adapter. Now I'm going to have to learn to take pictures the old fashioned way :-D This one was taken with the f2.8 135mm with the 2x Vivitar. I was shooting at around 200 ISO.
