I was recently at a meeting were some got into talking about whether staying sober was easy. I got to thinking that "easy" could mean both simple and effortless. I see staying sober as easy in the since that anybody can do it, with expertise and brainpower often being more of a hindrance than a help, but it is far effortless, and that effort must be something I never stop. I think the main reason I am still here after 33 years is that there was never a time when I thought I could do this on my own and did not need the support of meetings, Steps, other members and God |
