Hello –

The weather has been especially fine,
The courts look as dark as red wine,
Plan on playing at least one more time,
The Albany Tennis Club is in its prime.

And then we scheduled The Sean
Saturday was exciting and not a yawn.
Finn, Dautel, Qua, Woerhl, Sippel, Gorthy
Proved themselves much more than worthy.

Sunday it rained and rained and rained
Oh when will it stop so I can get trained
For the second big day of the tournament
We’ll have to wait until the clouds have went
(gone doesn’t rhyme with ment – poetic license?)

Second Annual Mayor Gerald D. Jennings Round Robin Tennis Tournament

The Second Annual Mayor Gerald Jennings Round Robin Tennis Tournament, aka the SAMGDJRRTT, also known as the Jerry, and also called The Sean was hosted by the Albany Tennis Club this past next weekend. Well, at least half of it was until the rains came. Sunday has been postponed until next Sunday, October 4th. In the morning the men’s doubles semifinal it was Al Qua and George Woerhl over Mike DeRossi and Pete Rinaldi. In the other semifinal it was David White and Seth Layton over Alan Chen and Ritesh Kotecha. In the finals it was Qua/Woerhl over White/Layton by a scored of 6-3 in a very exciting match. In the other men’s doubles event it was Mike Gorthy and Len Sippel over Garth Mashmann and Eric Wohlleber in a great match by a score of 6-4. In the ladies doubles event semifinal it was Sue Dautel and Chris Finn over Wendy Meola and Robin Pollitzer. In the other semifinal event it was Fonda Charne and Ava Charne over Lisa Brainard and Betsy Mercogliano. In the finals it was Dautel/Finn over Charne/Charne by a score of 6-1 which was a much closer and a more exciting match than the score appears. Next Sunday we will have the mixed doubles event and the men’s singles event. There is still time to enter if you are interested. I appreciate your support for this event.

Parent Child Round Robin

With two weekends left we have plenty of time for more tennis. How about a parent – child round robin? Members and non members are welcome. Adult children are welcome. Adult adults are also welcome. Saturday, October 3rd, 10 am. Rain date would be Saturday, October 10th, 10 am. E-mail me if you are interested.

Community Tennis Lollapalooza

Sunday, October 11th is the last Sunday of the season for the Albany Tennis Club. Let’s see how many of us we can get out for one last big event. Community Tennis Lollapalooza, Sunday, October 11th, 2 pm. Raindate is Monday, October 12th, 2 pm. Let’s close the season with a big get together.
