August 16, 2009 Acts of kindness and goodwill A month ago I told you about an act of international goodwill that happened at the Albany Tennis Club. The visiting professor from Korea, Young Ki Kim, has reciprocated with presents for our members. He presented our ATC president, Bob Wood, with 10 silk ties and 10 women’s silk scarves on Sunday at Community Tennis. We want to pass them on to the members. Please nominate an ATC member by sending an e-mail to Bob at bobwood@nycap.rr.com. Your nomination can be based on any act of sportsmanship or friendliness or kindness that you have seen this year. Bob and I will decide the winners and distribute the presents as soon as possible. Deadline for nominations is Sunday, August 23rd. The Community Hospice left two cases of water behind after the fundraiser on Saturday. I put them on ice and the last of them were gone tonight. So the ATC bought three more cases and they will be on ice for you to cool off with. They will be gone in a few days. This is just my idea but if you have enjoyed the water wouldn’t you want to keep it going? If so, pick up a case of water and bring it in or give me a donation and I’ll take care of getting the water and the ice. Community Tennis is the most popular program at the Club and the ATC will be providing the balls for the rest of the season. During CT players get a chance to meet and play with members they have not met before. Much comraderie and fun ensues. Why not join us? In a few days I will have assembled a bench donated by the son of C. Gilbert “Gib” Moore by his sons in their father’s memory. It is a very handsome bench and we will enjoy it for many years to come. With all this kindness and goodwill I am looking forward to being at the Club and seeing all the good feelings being passed around. Some repeats for those who may have missed them last week –
Thank you for your understanding. Upcoming Events The Albany Tennis Club will be having a ladies singles event on Sunday, August 23 at 1 pm. Each event will have an upper bracket and a lower bracket if there is sufficient participation. Free to members, $15 per play fee for non-members. E-mail me to register. The Albany Tennis Club is offering an adult tennis camp August 24 through 29 from 1 to 4 pm. The instructor will be Tom Bain. The summer camp is a concentration of informative instruction and supervised play designed to transition a player quickly to the next level. The combination of instruction and play provides players a well rounded instructive atmosphere by which they can see improvement more rapidly. Our goal is to have lots of fun while encouraging the players to learn as much as possible. The cost is $150 for the 15 hours / 5 days of instruction. Let me know if you have any questions. The Tri County Tournament is September 5 – 7. It attracts many players from within and outside the area. Brackets will be available for members to participate. Let Larry Y. know that you are interested in playing – lyakubowski@yahoo.com. Weekly Schedule
