July 19, 2009 On Sunday, July 19th, the Albany Tennis Club hosted the second of three member guest events – mixed doubles. There were 16 participants. In the Championship Match, Sue Paul and Don Paul defeated Betsy Mercogliano and Tom McPheeters by a score of 8-4. In the third place match, Christine Finn and Jack Simeone defeated Nina Moore and Nick Brown by a score of 8-6. A pro-set (first to 8 games) was used to decide the winners in the finals. Thanks to all who participated. Next Sunday is ladies doubles. Can we get more than 16 participants? Despite the rain last week we had the largest one day attendance on Monday, 7/13. 67 players signed in and played. And 296 players signed in and played last week by far the most this season. Thanks to all for your cooperation with signing in. Some repeats for those who may have missed them last week –
Sometimes due to the result of rain we have courts unavailable. But the sun comes out and we all want to play. We like to have as many players enjoy their tennis as possible. Doubles matches can accommodate twice as many players as a singles match. So there may come a time if there are courts out of commission and you are playing singles that you might be asked by the attendant to share your court with two other players. Thank you for your understanding. Upcoming Events The 2009 Jim Conley Tournament has been postponed until August. Date to be announced.
