July 12, 2009 On Saturday, July 11th, the Albany Tennis Club hosted the Benefit for the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB). Over 30 people participated in the event and over $2,000 was raised to support the program. Margaret Roberts and I thank all who participated as well as all who donated towards the cause. In the finals of the event Martha and Tom Fashouer defeated Rebecca Bloom and Tom McPheeters in an exciting match. Another good thing that happened is that through an act of international act of good will we now have a visiting professor from Korea as a member of the ATC. Welcome professor Young Ki Kim. Some not so good things – we had a bicycle stolen from the rack out side the Club. Be sure to lock your bike up. If you do not have a lock, please bring your bicycle in and put it in the back by the shed. To avoid accidents, do not leave your bicycle near the courts. The locker room / bathroom is locked at 7:30 pm each night. It is unwise to leave your clothing in the locker room. Kathleen finally got her clothes back but it took a while. A couple of umbrellas were damaged this past week due to the wind. Please remember to put the umbrellas down when you are finished playing. Put the umbrellas down if the wind picks up while you are playing. Upcoming Events I would like a big turnout tomorrow for the 2009 Jim Conley tournament will be held on Tuesday , July 21, 2009 Raindate: Thursday, July 23, 2009. 9 am at the Albany Tennis Club. The Albany Tennis Club is offering an adult tennis camp July 13 through 17 from 1 to 4 pm. The instructor will be Tom Bain. The summer camp is a concentration of informative instruction and supervised play designed to transition a player quickly to the next level. The combination of instruction and play provides players a well rounded instructive atmosphere by which they can see improvement more rapidly. Our goal is to have lots of fun while encouraging the players to learn as much as possible. The cost is $150 for the 15 hours / five days of instruction. Let me know if you have any questions.
