A little about us and our home.

Hi there, thanks for taking a look at our little website.

We live in a beautiful part of West Wales just a few miles inland from the coast and we have lived here since 1977. In 1990 we purchased a small field of approx. one and a half acres in the centre of the village. We designed our house and after it was built we moved in in 1991. Then we started on the gardens. We had a completely blank canvas here. The pictures below show what we have done in the last 17 years. One of the first jobs was to dig out two ponds, one above the other down in the corner of the plot as we had a continuous supply of spring water down there. We did stock them with fish but it has proved almost impossible to keep them due to the Otter, the mink and Herons.There are a few fish left due to the fact that we do not keep it totally weed free and this gives them plenty of hiding places. Here are a couple of photo's of those ponds.

We also have two smaller ponds, both quite shallow and built for plants and wildlife.

Up closer to the house is our main pond. This was all dug out by hand and is 4' 6" deep. Here we have a assortment of fish, incuding Orf, Koi , Rud and Goldfish. Our first stock of Koi were wiped out by the Otter. We fenced off the area surrounding the back of the house which includes the pond with otter-proof- fencing, restocked and everything was fine until a Mink found a way in. After this we thought 'is it worth it'. However, we decided it was, restocked and, touch wood, have had no further problems for the past two and a half years. We have also developed a wild area down in the corner. This area only has the grass cut once a year, around late September. Every tree there we cultivated ourselves, either from seed, a seedling or from a cutting.
