A Win Is a Win...and This One Was Big

The Cards got back to even with a come-from-behind win over the Three Cities Baseball Club on Sunday, June 21st.  After getting behind 4-0 after 2 innings, the Cards staged a 2-out rally in the 3rd inning to tie the score, then stole the go-ahead run in the 7th off of an errant throw by the TCBC catcher back to the pitcher.

Defense saved the day, however, as both Joe Cisar and Brian McGalliard made outstanding defensive plays in the 9th inning.  Cisar gunned down the tying TCBC run on attempted steal and McGalliard smothered a bouncer up the middle to save a force out at second.  The tandem also hooked up to stifle what could have been a big 2nd inning for TCBC.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, McGalliard fielded a short roller and threw to Cisar, who ran down the runner from 3rd and then fired to second to double off the other runner and end the inning.

Statitics updates and box score posting will come later.

If We Could Only Play TCBC & the Dodgers Every Week

The Cardinals continued their funk with an 11-3 loss at the hands of the A's on Sunday, May 31st.  Nothing new to report: they gave up too many runs and couldn't score enough.  In their defense, their 3 beat downs have come against the league's perennial top 3 teams.

Joe Cisar did have 2 hits, but he could only bat in one spot of the order.

The Cards look to get back on track this weekend when they take on the Indians at Hudson High School.  Game time is 1:00pm.

The Cardinals dropped to 3-2 on Sunday, May 24th with a 10-0 loss to Ultimate Sack.  The bats just never showed up for the Cards, as they mustered only 2 hits all day: one each by DJ Costic and Brian McGalliard.

Next game is Sunday, May 31st against the A's at Hudson High School.  Game time is 1:00pm.

Good Guys Eke Out Extra Innings Victory

The Cardinals moved to 3-1 with a 10-inning win over the Dodgers on Sunday, May 17th.  After leading the whole game, things unraveled and the Dodgers put up 3 runs to tie it in the 9th.  However, the Cardinals played a little small ball and benefited from a crucial miscue by the Dodgers to reclaim the lead and, ultimately, the game.

Christopher Carzoo paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and 3 RBIs.  Brian McGalliard also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

The Cards enter the toughest part of the schedule next week when they take on UltimateSack on Sunday, May 24th at Hudson High School.  Game time is set for 4:30pm.

Cardinals Bobble Their Way to First Defeat

The Akron Cardinals got a bit of a wake up call in the form of a 14-3 loss to the Colts on Sunday, May 3rd.  After getting down 3-0 early, the Cards committed 12 errors and just couldn't stop the bleeding enough to mount anything that might resemble a comeback.

DJ Costic walked 3 times, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base to (ahem) pace the offense.  Christopher Carzoo added 2 hits and now once again leads the team.

With a week off to lick their wounds, the Cards will return to action on Sunday, May 17th against the Dodgers at Hudson High School.  Game time is 4:30pm.
