Choose to Be Body Plan

WELCOME to Akita Fowler's Choose to Be Body Plan page

As most overweight people know, being overweight is not simply a matter of eating too much.  Eating and weight management can be an emotionally draining experience of trying to reduce calorie intake, losing weight, then gaining every single pound lost plus a bit more for good measure.  Some people get into a soul destroying cycle of starving and bingeing, or use food to comfort but end up hating themselves.

Would you like to make different choices?

With my 3 module approach I can help you to explore your choices, and then choose a different way of eating and behaving around food.

My 3 module programme includes:
  • Physiology - looking at your physical reasons for eating
  • Behaviour - identify your behavioural and habitual reasons for eating
  • Psychological - focusing on your psychological and emotional reasons for eating
An outline of my Body Plan is explained below:

The Choose To Be Body Plan

1st Module - Physiology

In the first part of the programme I encourage you to understand some links between food, appetite and mood.  We do this in a variety of ways, including:
  • Keeping a Food and Mood Diary (see example below) for one week whilst eating your normal diet.
Example of Food and Mood Diary:

TimeFood/drinkHow I felt before eating
How I felt after eating
How I felt 1 hour after eating
Monday 8am
Coffee, 2 pieces of toast with butter and marmalade
Headache, tired
Enjoyed the food, but still feel a bit hungry
Bloated, sluggish, craving something sweet
  • Next would be to remove all processed sugar from your diet while keeping up with your Food and Mood Diary to monitor your responses
2nd Module - Behaviour

This module includes examining how much of your eating is purely habitual.
Habitual, mindless or chaotic eating can often be the cause of weight gain and the subsequent difficulty in maintaining a weight you are happy with. Over the course of this module you will be asked to notice how you feel and behave during the day, and the evening.  I will ask you a number of questions such as:
  • Do you avoid breakfast?
    • Is this a habit
    • Do you simply not feel hungry?
  • Do you usually get crisps and chocolate out to munch on while watching TV in the evening?
    • Are you hungry?
    • Are you nibbling for the sake of something to do?
  • Do you want to eat the moment you walk in through the door after work?
    • Is this a habit?
    • Do you eat for comfort?

3rd Module - Psychological

This part of the programme explores how much of your eating is for psychological and emotional reasons.  Some core questions I might ask you are:
  • Are there particular situations that trigger a craving for food in you?
  • Are there particular people who evoke a strong emotional response in you?
  • If you were to wake up tomorrow morning and a miracle had happened, which would you prefer:
    • To have lost all the weight you want to lose?
    • To have learned how to manage yourself around food?
    • What are the reasons for this choice?
