LARGE ALLEN WRENCHES - MAGNETIC DRILL CHUCK. Large Allen Wrenches
flywheelLock I used a rather large (8mm) allen wrench to lock the flexplate(flywheel) while I wrenched the crank bolt free. If you use this method, you will have to remove the undercover shield, then remove the two bolts(red circles showing location...already removed) holding the access cover plate. Insert the allen wrench in the large hole with wrench head facing left. There are other methods to removing the crank bolt. You can use a powerful air wrench or the factory tool (if you want to shell out the $). You might also have success holding the crank pulley with the serpentine belt. I chose the flexplate method because it was fairly easy to do and seemed logical. With an air tool, how do you get it torqued back to 181 ft-lbs? Thats why I used the flexplate lock. Worked very well. dscf101-1088
The "North Pool" in the background is only about two miles from the main parking lot (which was also the only open one - it's piping plover mating season, so the most of the beach and many of the parking lots are closed.) The round-trip made a good "break-in" ride for me and the folding bike (which fits fine in the back seat of the mini.) I do need to carry an extra large allen wrench for the crank, but otherwise it worked out well, especially with the dSLR on a lumaloop behind me - especially since I was going for stop-when-I-see-something riding, not trying to actually make progress :-) See also: ryobi 18v impact drill inch adjustable wrench 5 16 combination wrench cordless tool set auto impact wrench proto socket sets drilling attachments torque angle wrench |
