A PARLIAMENTARY TIP from Doris Abbate, CP-T,PRP: Establishing
communication between the parliamentarian and the presiding officer, while not always
possible, should be a top priority. It is best when the presiding officer and
parliamentarian meet for at least an hour prior to their first meeting together.
They each benefit from the opportunity to establish a rapport and review
presiding procedures and language well before the meeting.
Remember, anything
can come up at anytime. They must be confident of the other’s
understanding of
the procedures, rules and concerns in advance.
