Our New Apartment
We've finally finished moving in and are almost done decorating. Here are pictures of our new apartment, posted as they become available.
Our apartment is a 2-bedroom/2-bathroom unit on the third floor. The patio is on the southwest side of the unit. We've almost finished furnishing it; Alice is looking to buy an electric piano (which may go next to the patio door in the living room) and we're upgrading the little fishbowl on the console table (against the slanted wall between the entry and the living room) to a 20-gallon fishtank. The gecko lives in a nook between the breakfast bar and the entrance to my room, and is shown by a purple rectangle in the floorplan below.
In general, magenta shapes are seating, brown shapes are tables of some kind, teal shapes are beds, green shapes are electronics, and purple shapes are other items. Containers with large surfaces, such as dressers and the buffet, are inconsistently colored either brown or purple.
Michelle's Bedroom
My room is decorated traditionally but with Asian elements, such as the embroidered curtains and the orchid on the dresser. Decorations from Peru and Mexico are on the walls, bookcase, and nightstands.
Older items are mixed in with my sleeker new acquisitions, such as the Sharon and Jimmy dolls sitting opposite the orchid on the dresser or the collection of stuffed animals on the bed. Mixed in with the Asian-elements painting above the wall, the photos of Peru, the painting from Peru, and the modernist mirror are pages from my old Monet Landscapes calendar and two of Rafael Atoian's paintings of Fresno.
Leading from the main portion of the bedroom is a short hallway (with a closet partway along it) that leads to the bathroom. On the left, opposite the window, is a full-length mirror. As part of this hallway borders the laundry room (which has the water heater and other appliances), the circuit breakers are also on this wall. I've since taped down the ethernet cable that runs between the modem (in the nightstand) and Storm's computer (on the desk).
The bathroom is about half the size of the bathroom in my previous apartment, so I've compensated by putting shelves on the walls. The wall that isn't visible in this photo has one shelf, a towel bar with bath towels on it, and two nineteenth-century photos of Camp.
Other assorted pictures
The small print next to the orchid was a birthday present from a coworker (her own art) and is captioned "White kitty with a too-long tail taunting a shark." More of her art can be found at http://www.twoeyeballs.com/.
