The Oregon Department of Corrections is not releasing many inmates ahead of time. These inmates have been given shorter sentences by action of the 2009 legislature in House Bill 3508. Here are some of the crimes eligible for sentence reduction. These clearly are not the "property crimes" described by politicians when they passed the measure. Sadly, the legislature clearly allows such criminals convicted of the following crimes to be released early. *Abandonment of a Child-ORS 163535 *Abuse of a Corpse in the First Degree-ORS 166.087 *Assault on a Public Safety Officer-ORS163.208 *Assault on a Law Enforcement Animal-ORS 167.339 *Burglary in the First Degree-ORS 164.225 *Buying or Selling a Person Under 18 Years of Age-ORS 163.537 *Causing another Person to Ingest Drugs-ORS 475.984 *Child Neglect in the First Degree-ORS 163.547 *Coercion-ORS 163.275 *Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree-ORS 163.205 *Custodial Sexual Misconduct in the First Degree-ORS 163.452 *DUII felony (4th conviction in 10 years)-ORS 813.010(5) *Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the First Degree-ORS 163.684 *Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the Second Degree-ORS 163686 *Escape in the First Degree-ORS162.165 *Female Genital Mutilation-ORS 163.207 *Hit and Run-Injury-ORS 811.705 *Hit and Run-Boat-ORS 830.475 *Incest-ORS 163.525 *Inmate possession of a firearm/weapon-ORS166.275 *Intimidation in the First Degree-ORS 166.165 *Luring a Minor-167.057 *On Line Sexual Corruption in the First Degree-ORS 163.433 *On Line Sexual Corruption in the Second Degree-ORS 163.432 *Possession of Body Armor-ORS 166.643 *Possession of a Hoax Destructive Device-ORS 166.385 *Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials of a Child in the First Degree-ORS 163.688 *Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials of a Child in the Second Degree-ORS 163.689 *Promoting Prostitution-ORS 167.012 *Public Indecency-ORS 163.465(2)(B) *Purchase or Sale of a Body Part-ORS 97.981 *Robbery in the Third Degree-ORS 164.395 *Felony Stalking-ORS 163.732 or 163.750 *Subjecting Another to Servitude in the First or Second Degree-ORS163.264/163.263 *Supply Contraband-ORS 162.185 *Theft by Extortion-ORS 164.075 *Trafficking in Persons-ORS 163.266 *Tree Spiking-Injury-ORS 164.877(3) *Unlawful Administration of a Controlled Substance-ORS 475.986 *Unlawful Contact with a Child-ORS 163.479 *Use a Stun Gun, Tear Gas, and Mace in the First Degree-ORS 163.213 *Unlawful Use of a Weapon-ORS 166.220

Rembert, S.C. 01-15-08. C. Aluka Berry - The State/caberry@thestate.com Wateree Correctional Institution inmate and Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation’s groom elite certification program trainee Joshua Reynolds, 26, bonds with his favorite horse, Little Me Too, after a grooming session. The TRF program, which started in June 2005 at the Wateree Correctional Institution on the Kershaw County and Sumter County line, gives horses --- and the prisoners who learn to care for them -- a second chance at life. Upon release Reynolds will have served more than a year at the medium-security prison for second-degree burglary. Since he’s been in prison, he’s reconciled with his wife and two children, and he says he’s learned from his mistakes. While he wants to eventually have a career working with horses, he plans to go to Midlands Tech and get his electrician certification and try to get a job as an electrician’s assistant, his job before his incarceration.
