Temple Registered Nurses On Strike
Temple Registered Nurses On Strike
Philadelphia 2010 Rittenhouse Square Temple registered nurses went on strike. From the info I obtained in a handbill, they are striking because they are against Temple's demands for a "gag clause" that they claim will prevent them for speaking up for patients (advocacy), and Temple's rejection of their proposal for improvements in staffing that they say will prevent mistakes and save lives. Lastly they are rejecting Temple's proposal to double or triple what they pay in health insurance premiums. After a rally in Rittnehouse Square they marched around the park twice, each time stopping in front of Temple president Ann Weaver Hart's residence. Temple says she has nothing to do with it. The points of contention between the two sides include pay raises, cost of health insurance, tuition benefits for employees' children, and random drug testing. The hospital and union are working with a state mediator.
