1. Getting to Toronto Toronto is easily accessible via air, road, rail, and water, from major cities in the United States and Europe. Please note a passport, visa, and/or other travel documents may be required to enter Canada based on your point of origin and/or nationality. Americans travelling to Canada may wish to consult information provided by the American Consulate here. The conference is conveniently located in downtown Toronto in the Bloor-Spadina or "Annex" area. The Jackman Humanities Building is located across the street from the St. George Subway station (follow the exit signs in the subway station for "Medical Arts Building"). 2. Getting around Toronto The TTC is the city's most economical and convenient public transit option. Single fares are $3.00 and day passes for two adults' unlimited travel are available for $10 (for details, click here). You can get an overview of the integrated subway, bus, and streetcar system by visiting the TTC website. The TTC website includes maps, a trip planner, and helpful information concerning travel routes and delays. The subway/RT hours of operation on weekdays and Saturdays are approximately 6:00am to 1:30am, and Sunday service approximately 9:00am to 1:30am. Taxis are readily available at all hours by hailing one on the street. 3. TTC: The cheapest way to get downtown or to the conference location from Pearson is to take the TTC or public transit system (cost: $3.00, approximate travel time: 45-60 minutes). The 192 Airport Rocket provides all-day, regular accessible express bus service between Kipling Station on the Bloor-Danforth Subway and Pearson International Airport. This option is probably recommended for those of adventurous spirit and little luggage, however. TTC directions from Pearson are as follows: Exit the airport terminal through the "Ground Transportation" exit. Line up for the "192 Airport Rocket" bus stop. Ride the 192 to Kipling Station (approx. 20 minutes) and go downstairs to the subway system (you may wish to take a transfer, just in case). Travel east on the subway until you reach the St George subway station (the conference location), or carry on to another downtown location. Schedules for the 192 Airport Rocket are available here. Airport Express Shuttle A number of bus-shuttle services are available from Pearson. Taxi Taxis to downtown Toronto cost approximately $45-50 plus tip (approximate travel time: 30 minutes). Taxis can be hailed outside the airport terminal. |
