I'm not really an artist, and I don't know squat about how colors are supposed to fit together.  Or I do know squat.  I've never really understood that phrase.  Anyway, my point is, I just know what I like.  Or I set a challenge for myself, or I respond to challenges on forums and stuff.  I justify this by saying I'm practicing for when work asks me to design a flier or poster or application icon (which has only happened once but could totally happen again!) or something.
