This is the story of our eventual great expedition into the continent of Africa plus all the trips in between.

We are Dan, Libyan born; Wendy, South African born and our daughter Cassie, Brighton born. The plan is to travel to Cape Town from Brighton, in the U.K, along the East Coast of Africa.

The African trip started as a joke. Dan threw a suggestion out of the blue about selling up the flat and travelling the world. This we talked about as a 'dream' over the next few months and it slowly morphed from 'travelling the world' into 'overlanding Africa'. To fund this type of trip, we have set ourselves a target monthly amount to save. We have guestimated a rough figure of what we will need to do this trip and have set that at roughly £30 000. At the moment Dan is tied into his current job due to University studies, this means that our set off date for "The Big One" won't be till 2014, but that gives us ample amount of time to save what we need and to do any planning and 'training' that we feel would be beneficial. There are a few trepedations about travelling with a child, especially as Cassie will require us, as parents, to take on the burden of her education for that period, but we feel that the journey will out-way everything.

In the meantime we plan to do as many long trips in between across Europe and other countries to gain experience and tweek the equipment list etc. Take a look at the trips that we have managed to put under our belts already.

This trip isn't just about the adventure of overlanding across Africa, but a chance for all of us to see and experience new countries, cultures, food and adventures. It will be a long and enjoyable journey.

And so the journey begins.......
