[91/365] Electric Fail - Kitchen I got home on Thursday night to find that none of my lights were working and then eventually realised that nothing electrical was working. I tend to get home at around 8pm which was apparently 5 minutes after the npower offices close and their emergency number didn't really know what was wrong as power was getting to the building (confirmed by lights in the corridor and loud-thumping bass above me). I ended up staying at Phil's house but today was my last day at Pod1 and I didn't fancy going all the way back to Bedford (possibly drunk). As I wasn't going to be doing any cooking or anything, I decided to stay at my place in the dark and managed to indulge my candle fetish by lighting a small selection of the candles I own so I could see as I got ready for bed. I assumed that the power cut was due to me refusing to pay a ?600 bill for the past 3 months electric as I thought there was something wrong with my meter. It turned out that the real problem was that my meter was wired incorrectly to the flat to my right (so I'd been paying for their electric for the past year), their meter was wired incorrectly to the flat on my left, and their meter was wired to mine (so they'd been paying for my electric). Unfortunately, the people to my left had moved out and they were on a meter rather than a monthly bill and so they had just been topping up the meter when it was running low - as they'd moved out, nobody had topped it up and so my electric got cut off. It's all sorted now but I'm going to have fun getting several hundred pounds back from my electric company - even more fun seeing as it's not actually their fault but the people that built my building!!
