WORST SPORTS FRANCHISE : GIVE IT A NAME CALL IT A FRANCHISE : DOG DAYCARE FRANCHISES Worst Sports Franchise
September 22 (265/365) I wish I had a more "exciting" photo for this, but I had some bad light and needed to take a shot. I spent much of today in Albany at the New York AP banquet, where I received this award. Though always cool to get an award, I usually brush things off. This was the first time I went to the banquet and really enjoyed it. For winners, they also note something about the articles submitted. For me, this was said: "Our judges said the first-place winner mixed sadness with a dash of humor. Writing about the moving of the Oneonta baseball franchise as an "obituary" was a unique approach." Really cool. Sad Sack World Series
**FILE**In this Oct. 21, 1980 file photo, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Tug McGraw leaps into the air as Kansas City Royals batter Willie Wilson strikes out to end the game and give the Phillies the World Series in the ninth inning in Philadelphia. In the background is Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt. Call it the Sad Sack Series in 2008, from Philadelphia, the losingest team in pro sports history to Tampa Bay, a club that on opening day could have made a strong case for worst expansion franchise ever. The Phillies have but one World Series title and that was back in 1980.
