What is AFAC Plot Against Hunger?

The Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) is again this year asking local gardeners to grow fruits and vegetables to help feed families in need in Arlington. AFAC - Arlington's food pantry - will provide free seeds to those gardeners willing to donate all or a portion of what they grow.

How To Plot Against Hunger

Plant an extra row of Fall and Winter Vegetables in your backyard:

Get Involved With Existing Church/Community Garden Plots Against Hunger:

Last year we had 7 Plots Against Hunger in Arlington in community gardens and churches. These garden plots were dedicated to growing produce for AFAC.

What We Did in 2009
In 2009 we collected 175,000 pounds of fresh produce through donations from local gardens, farm markets and gleaning:

New Project in 2010 - Central Library Garden

A demonstration organic vegetable garden at Arlington's Central Library.  Lots of photos are available at the Arlington Central Library Garden page or the Central Library Blog which can be found here.

This project is a joint effort of AFAC, Arlington County Central Library, USDA, Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, Girl Scout Troop 1431 and Potomac Vegetable Farms.
