Event Description:
Lisbon, the newest AEGEE member wants to share with the WORLD we are here and we have our arms open to YOU ALL! We want to embrace you in our beloved White Capital, sharing with you the pleasures of this Paradise facing the Ocean. George Steiner’s Idea of Europe guides us to our major theme – the CAFÉS. The cafés as a way to discuss Europe, at the same time being the essence of it and providing the place for the discussion itself to happen. We plan a week of intense discussion about Europe, in the present and in the future, always over a cup of coffee in a crowded café. Visits to the Old City, the Castle and Moorish quarters, Downtown (18th century quarters) and the brand new EXPO ’98 urban area will introduce you to Portuguese history and supply the perfect introduction to some Portuguese lessons ;) Enjoying the nightlife around Lisbon – Bairro Alto (in the old town), Docas (the Marina warehouses), Parque das Nações (EXPO ’98 bars and pubs) and the duet Santos/24 de Julho (a bar street and a busy avenue filled with discos) will show Portuguese wild habits. Try bathing in the fresh Atlantic waters, come taste Porto wine, and be truly European in a short but intense visit to Portugal.
The ideal participant:
Everyone who loves travelling, who loves getting to know other people, who loves to know other cities. Anyone who is interested in Europe, in culture, languages, sun, beach, walking (there will be plenty of that), URBANITY! AEGEE spirit definitely recommended and also a dosage of forgiveness - it will be our first event! ;)

Reception; Ice-breaking party; Introduction lecture about AEGEE and plans for the week; Visit to the Old Town; Portuguese Lesson; Visit to Expo ’98; Beach; Visit around Lisbon in a Tram; Photo-paper around Lisbon; Coffee cup discussions; Wine and food tasting; Night party hopping.
Disabled People: Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to host disabled people.
Extra Info: Extra meal may cost between 3 and 6 € We will provide breakfast and one warm meal per day. Rooms will not be crowded (hopefully ;))
Travel Info: Lisbon has an international airport and it is 300 Km from Porto, 250 Km from Faro and 500 Km from Madrid, which all have international airports with low budget airlines operating there (connections to Lisbon by bus or train). |
