Homework

Homework will be given each night or each week, depending on what the assignments will be.  Please check your child's agenda each night for assignments and due dates.  I will post important long term assignments, such as book repsonses and math challenges, on this site.

Math: Students will normally have a page in the Homework and Remembering Math Expressions book.

Reading: Students should be reading for 20 minutes each night and filling out the AR reading log.

Writing: Students have the option of writing in a journal/diary each night.  They can write about anything that comes to mind and want to get down on paper.  This will help with their writing skills and allow them to put into practice what they are learning each day in class.

Vocabulary:  Students will receive words each Monday that we will be covering in class throughout the week.  Monday night they have to look up and write the definitons of each word.  Tuesday night students are to use the words in a sentence.  Wednesday nights they need to use all of their words to write a story at least two paragraphs long.  Thursday night is their night to study the meanings of the words for the test on Friday.

Science: Students may have to look up facts about the unit in science, but there will generally not be any homework in science.

Social Studies: Students may have to finish any incomplete work they have from the days assignment.

Important to Remember: The real-life math challenge is to allow students to apply skills learned in the classroom in a real-world setting.  You may help them, but they must do most of the work.
