Miracles

Sometimes the miracle isn't the healing.
Sometimes it's the ability to continue to have faith even when you're not healed.

Miscellaneous Sites

Food

  • Angel Food Ministries - This ministry sells boxes of food for $30. Enough to feed a family of 4 for a week. The cost is about half what you'd spend in a grocery store to buy the same things. Not a bad deal.

Music

  • Dante Bucci - Awesome. Listen to him play Fanfare on a Hang. Very nice.
  • Jake Shimabukuro - Amazing ukulele music. (Yes, thats right, amazing ukulele music!)
  • Jon Schmidt - I really enjoy this guys piano music.
  • Pandora Radio - This site actually managed to get me into listening to music again.

Graphics

  • InterfaceLIFT - This is where I go to find desktop wallpaper.
  • picnik - A nice easy to use web based image editor (requires Flash 9)

Fonts

  • Free Fonts for Everyday Use
    • DejaVu Fonts - The DejaVu fonts are a font family based on the Vera Fonts release 1.10. Its purpose is to provide a wider range of characters while maintaining the original look and feel through the process of collaborative development.
    • Liberation Fonts - The Liberation Fonts are intended to be replacements for the three most commonly used fonts on Microsoft systems: Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New.
    • Computer Modern Unicode - Their main purpose is to create free good quality fonts for use in X applications supporting many languages.
    • Libertine Open Fonts Project - A versatile font family designed to give you an alternative to fonts like Times New Roman.
    • Junicode - A unicode font for medievalists.
    • Tiresias - Nice readable fonts for a variety of uses.
    • SIL has many different fonts for many different languages. Gentium is especially nice.
  • Great Sources of Free Fonts
    • Manfred Klein Fonteria - Free for private and charity use. Free for commercial use too. But if there is any profit, he requests that a donation be made to an organization such as Doctors Without Borders. I like using his Frankly Spoken Two font as an alternative to Impact.
    • Dieter Steffmann - Some nice free fonts here. I especialy like his American Text old english style font. He has some other nice Old English style fonts too, such as Cloister Black and Olde English. And he has one called Pilsen Plakat which is similar to Impact.
    • KingThings - Some very nice free calligraphy and decorative fonts here.
    • freefont.de - One new free font every month.
  • Other Free Fonts

Blogs

  • I Trust When Dark My Road - A Lutheran blog exploring the theology of the cross, depression and mental illness in the light of our Lord's resurrection.
  • Thinking Out Loud - Another interesting Lutheran blog I read from time to time.

Software

There are plenty of other sites out there with long lists of software to do various things, so I won't mention very much here. I'll just list a few things that I like.

  • ie7-js - Include in your webpages to make IE behave better.
  • Scribus - An open source page layout program. Very nice. I've used it to make a number of things already. It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
  • Inkscape - A vector graphics editing program similar to Adobe Illustrator but open source and cross platform. It even allows you to edit PDF files now. Works on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
  • jedit - A very nice text editor. Its one of only about 4 or 5 Java applications that I actually like.
  • xephem - A very cool astronomy program. Not "pretty" but it has tons of features. I love it. :)
  • pyephem - A python ephemeris library based on the routines that XEphem uses. Very cool.
