Theraputic and emotional support for children on the Autistic spectrum. We use play therapy model in such work.

The training will cater for up to 16 participants.
The training will be held at the professional centre from 9.30 - 3.30pm

Who is the course for
 
This course is for all practitioners working in short breaks, childcare setting, play and youth services care who would like to know more about Autism Spectrum Disorders and would like to develop ways of supporting children/young people across a range of settings.
 
The course will provide participants with an overview of: 
 
  • The nature of autism and the autistic spectrum.
  • An understanding of the behaviours characteristics of autism.
  • An awareness of someof the challenges for an autistic child/young person relating to social interaction and communication.
  • The role of practitioners in supporting children in a range of settings.
  • Have opportunities to learn about practical strategies for supporting young people with ASD to make sense of their world.
  • For practitioners to discuss and reflect on the support they give children/young people they are currently working with.

Differentiation for Children with Special Educational Needs using Communicate in Print 2

 

Summary

This course is only available to Wandsworth schools.

This course will enable Wandsworth primary colleagues who have a basic knowledge of Communicate in Print 2 /Widgit software to develop their use of the materials as part of a whole school / whole class approach as well as furthering its use in relation to individual children’s needs. 

 

Target Audience

Primary school based /whole school staff professional development course or Professional Centre based professional development course for: SENCO's, class teachers, teaching assistants/learning support assistants who support children with a range of SEN in accessing the curriculum.   Participants should have a basic knowledge and experience of the ‘Communicate In Print2’ / ‘Widgit’ software package.

All Wandsworth Primary schools have a licence to use this software  / the software on site

 

Aims

 

Participants will gain knowledge/understanding of:

The advantages of using Communicate in Print for differentiation and scaffolding of learning

objectives within the national curriculum.

The benefits of a whole-school and a whole-class approach to using the ‘Communicate in Print 2’ resource; as well as for support of individual children’s needs.

Participants will gain skills in:

  • Using symbols to suport understanding, expression, learning and literacy within the classroom

·        Knowing the who, what, when, where and why to using Communicate in Print

  • Desiging and using symbols in a meaningful way to support children’s learning and communication

Intended impact on practice:

Ability to produce a range of quality symbol support materials for children, which match their levels of understanding and expression of language and learning.

Use of symbols to support children to reach their agreed targets (including Speech and Language Therapy targets). 

Staff attending will take responsibility to share information with other members of staff
