Chauncey Hare's "Man Seated at Table with Lunchpail"
Chauncey Hare's "Man Seated at Table with Lunchpail"
Chauncey Hare (1934- ) does not define himself as a photographer, but instead an engineer, a family therapist and, above all, a protester. Funded by three Guggenheim Fellowships and three National Endowment Fellowships, he spent only a short period of his life making photographs. Frustrated by the photo art world, he photographed only intermittently to 1985, when he stopped making photographs altogether. In 2000, distrusting art museums, Hare donated all of his photographs and negatives to the Bancroft Library of the University of California in Berkeley. He has an engineering degree from Columbia University, an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, a Masters Degree in Organization Development from Pepperdine University, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Sierra University. He and his wife Judith Wyatt are co-authors of the denial-breaking clinical handbook Work Abuse: How to Recognize and Survive It (1997). As a licensed family therapist Hare now helps working people – in person, on the phone, and on the internet – minimize the abuse they suffer as workers in their corporate and government jobs. This image was part of a series that Hare published in a recent book (2009) entitled "Protest Photographs". It and other photos in the book depict Hare's response to the claustrophobic atmosphere and spiritual desolation in workers lives. It is Hare's vision of what could be extraordinary lives dulled by joyless routine and loss of personal meaning....anesthetized cogs in a machine. In his current work Hare expands upon the photos presented in his previous book entitled "Interior America"....images he made within the offices of the corporate world he was rallying against. When Hare gave up photography in 1985, he considered destroying all of his existing prints and negatives unless the Bancroft would accept them as a donation. The collection included taped interviews he conducted with workers and corporate managers, slide shows, 50,000 negatives, 3500 prints and 30,000 slides. This is a photograph from the original Hare image now displayed, as part of the vast photographic collection owned by Andy Pilara, at 'Pier 24 Photography' on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, California.
Aaron Neaves Clinical Psychology Identity
Aaron Neaves Clinical Psychology Identity
Aaron Neaves is a clinical psychologist specialising in children’s cases and needed a new identity to represent his practice. Fiercely maternal (and paternal), elephants will protect and nurture their young at all costs. A symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures and also known for their memory, intelligence and ability to grieve, elephants are thought to be on par with cetaceans and hominoids. Aristotle once said the elephant was “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind”. Couple this with the playful use of the jigsaw puzzle and we have an identity that perfectly reflects Aaron Neaves’ empathy, understanding and interaction with children.?
