How to Trade... -- Before you trade -- (If you‘re a minor get your parent permission 1st) 1. Organize your collection (especially your Minifigs, minifig parts, and accessories) ….a) So you know what you already have, and you don’t waste your time trading for it. ….b) So you know what you have to trade. You don’t want to miss out on a good trade because you can’t find your stuff. 2. Take well Lit, Focused, Organized Haves pictures ….a) Photo studio is a good idea (bought or made), or use blank sheets of white paper as a background. ….b) If you have a lot to offer Do Not take over lapping photos. ….c) Organize similar items together (i.e. head, weapons, armor, etc…). ….d) If you’re using a camera phone or webcam don’t try and photograph too many items, and don’t spread them out in an area more than a 8x11 sheet of paper. 3. Create organized Wants Pictures ….a) Pictures are better than lists, since a lot of traders don’t know the names of all the items, figs, etc… ….b) Don’t add too many items in a picture ….c) Keep in mind the Flickr will resize the image to fit it’s page layout. ….d) Bricklink is a good source of images 4. Create and maintain a Trade Log: a basic document where you keep track of what you offered to others and they’ve offered you… ….a) because FlickrMail isn’t good for this purpose, also free accounts are only allowed but so much space, and you’ll need to delete FMs. ….b) If you keep Trader’s addresses in your Trade Log, then it should Never be made public! -- Posting -- 1. Create a Trade Set in your Photostream and add both your Wants and Haves pictures ….a) Update the description with rules, restrictions, requests, etc… but keep it brief, Traders tend to skip long descriptions ….b) Add links to your other Wants/Haves pictures, another option is to add the pictures in the 1st comment ….c) If you don’t set the date on your camera then it’s a good idea to update the dates of your posts (helps trader figure out if your post is new or old) ….d) You will get a lot of unnecessary Notes on your posts, it isn’t rude to delete them. 2. Be Polite/Considerate (Even with Annoying N00Bs and Grumpy Old Traders): ….a) Don’t match someone else’s negative attitude, try and rise above it. ….b) Avoid arguments: They’re a waist of your time, and they clutter up your posts. ….c) Don’t dismiss or insult a Trader because his/her Haves are “weak” now, Their next Haves post may be a lot better (and they will remember you)! ….d) Don’t post unnecessary Comments and interfere with other Traders’ negotiations. ** Remember other Traders may see your conversations and they may decide whether or not to trade with you based upon those conversations ** 4. Be Patient - Timing can make or break a trade: ….a) Don’t assume Traders want to or are willing to wait an extended amount for you to finish the trade. If you start a negotiation, try and see it through in a timely manner.
