Co-Founder

2011 - Present

I co-founded Mint Consulting with the idea of empowering early stage entrepreneurs. The goal is to help entrepreneurs understand angel and venture capital deals.

Our methodology includes:

Developing adequate projections & valuations.

Working through John W. Mullin’s Seven Domains of Attractive Opportunities

I also participate in weekly Investor Forums where new angel investors are guided in the area of risk mitigation.

My role in the forums includes:

Making recommendations with regards to portfolio diversification.

Scrutinizing revenue projections & cost drivers. We work through the balance sheet implications for each including working capital and fixed asset needs, burn rates and time horizons.

Understanding not only investment terms but also the importance of setting realistic milestones.

Investigating viable exit strategies.

Wolfgang Custom Homes, Boulder, CO

Co-Owner

I co-founded a custom home interior remodeling company specializing in environmentally safe processes. In the role of operations/business development, I grew clientele from one sustainable home building client to over 65 residential clients in four years.

As part of the management team, I help managed all projects to achieve 100% completion on time and within budget while maintaining 25% gross profit margins.

Our company was featured in both Natural Home and Boulder County Home and Garden magazines for unique plaster finishes crafted from local materials.

Research Scientist/Research Specialist

Vertex Pharmaceuticals, San Diego, CA & Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC

1999 - 2005

At Vertex:

I co-developed HTS assay protocols used to identify novel drugs for ion channel targets.

I directly participated in the discovery of two pre-clinical compounds for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis.

I contributed to strengthening IP position through the generation of three approved patent applications.

I worked in tandem with project leaders to research, analyze, and implement a novel technology for drug discovery projects.

I co-developed HTS assay protocols used to identify novel drugs for ion channel targets.

At MUSC:

I was directly involved in the scientific efforts that addressed novel genetic alterations associated with cancer initiation, progression & metastasis.

I contributed to assessing the functions of prostate-related cancer genes and the proteins they encode.
I was responsible for DNA preparation, assembly of cosmid vectors, carrying out cloning of mutated Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator constructs used in Cystic Fibrosis research.
I was also responsible for the project’s RNA synthesis & protein analysis. Creatively, I minimized operational expenses by creating a cost-effective protocol for purifying protein variants.

Adjunct Faculty

Trident Technical College, Charleston, SC

1999 - 2000

I designed & taught a General Biology course 6 hours per week to nursing students. The course included 3 hours of lecture & 3 hours of laboratory work per week.

I was fired from this position because I tried to bring a Mcgill learning methodology into a community college setting. This job taught me a significant deal about the critical value of pedagogy in teaching.

Graduate Student Fellow

Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery

Montreal Neurological Institute

McGill University, Canada

1995 - 1998

My graduate fellowship involved a research project that addressed novel pharmacological methods to treat Epilepsy and cell degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease.

I conducted research protocols focused on the evaluation and characterization of the electrical properties of entorhinal cortex neurons. I had the awesome opportunity to master complex techniques that include: double electrode voltage clamp, dissociation of brain cells, whole-cell patch clamp, intracellular staining & stereotactic surgery.

Research Assistant Fellow

Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery

Montreal Neurological Institute

McGill University, Canada

1994

This fellowship allowed me to master the art of micro neurological surgeries in rats & frogs. I performed over 100 stereotactic brain surgeries. I also mastered three Immunocytochemistry (ICC) methods.
