ASTIG: Urban slang for "tough guy", meant as a compliment. Initially a derogatory term for neighborhood bully, it has evolved to become a cool adjective in street language, similar to "baaad-ass". Root word is TIGAS, an adjective in the Filipino language for HARD, TOUGH (or as a noun, a HARD-BODIED person, or HARD-WILLED personality). Filipinos easily create street slang words by flipping the sequence of syllables. So the formal word TIGAS becomes the informal ASTIG in street language.
Adobovelo ASTIGs are members who have accomplished any of the below-listed events. Click GALLERY OF ASTIGS to see their photos and palmares.
