FINAL UPDATE: October 2, 2010
Welcome to our first ADOBO Velo’s Criterium and Time Trial Series! We hope you have your spinning legs on overdrive by now as we will start the series on MARCH 21 for a total of 4 events: 2 criteriums and 2 hill climb time trials. This will be on alternating months to be held at our Wednesday Night Training Criterium venue at Carson and at Glendora Mountain Road (GMR). This will be led by our very own Pinoy Prides Deogacias Asuncion, Wilson Blas, Al Villamil, and ASTIG William Aligue with the supervision of the ADOBO Velo Officers.
The 2 categories are: · Category A - Intermediates, and the fast members of the club. · Category B - Slower members of the club, novice, and MOST 2009-2010 members.
Pinoy Prides Deo Asuncion, Wilson Blas, Al Villamil, and ASTIG William Aligue, including all USCF and CBR Category 3 and above racers are exempted from competing and will be our race officials. They will also assist and mentor participating members when needed and requested.
For Carson Criterium, category A will be timed at 50 minutes plus 5 laps to finish per setting from our timer. If the timer is not available, the official at the finish line will time it and call the last 5 laps. Category B race duration is 30 minutes. 2 points will be awarded for PREEM lap winner.
For GMR Time Trial events, Category A’s and B’s apply. Category A participants will start first. Fastest recorded times of each category will be the reference for place finishes. Starting line is just before the first gate of GMR. A KOM PREEM will be recorded at after 4 miles. Finish line is at the shed shack. Distance of 8 miles. Average gradient is 3.5 degrees.
Race numbers will be provided when available. PLEASE pin them to the right side of our jerseys as this will face the officials as they need to stand at the side of the road. Please keep and save your race numbers as much as possible as you will reuse them on the next races. PLEASE DO NOT LOOSE YOUR RACE NUMBERS. Let's save trees! A new race number will be provided upon registration when needed. Please present your previously used numbers as they are needed for your registration.

Final Points Leaders and the Most Improved Time Trialist
will receive Certificates on our Christmas Party. March 21 - Carson Criterium Series I
Category A Winners:
1st - Jon Maganis
2nd - JC Silva
3rd - Tim Claudio
Category B Winners:
1st - Vic Cartagenas
2nd - Meynard Luciano
3rd - Carlo Ponce de Leon
Lesson's learned from the Criterium:
- Race only your category.
- Please arrive an hour before your race. Cat B racers arriving late are not allowed to race Cat A race.
- Improper category. Adjustments will be done during registration.
- Video camera needed for accurate finish line results.
May 16 - GMR Time Trial Series II
Category A Winners:
1st - Ramon Reynaga
2nd - Tim Claudio
3rd - Ed Morente
Category B Winners:
1st - Alfred Tades
2nd - Dennis Gorospe
3rd - Rosalie Kneebone
Lesson's learned from the Time Trial:
* AT THE STARTING LINE:
- No loitering around and about 20 feet infront of the starting area.
- Line up behind and off the road so traffic can flow through. Do not loiter at the other side of the street.
* AT THE FINISH LINE:
- No loitering at the finish line and about 100 feet before.
- After you officially crossed the finish line, do not cycle up the line anymore as this can easily confuse our volunteers recording all participant's finish times.
- Do not loiter at the other side of the street. The turn up-hill is a blind corner and can be dangerous. Automobiles, motorcyclists and cyclists does not have enough braking distance and can cause mishaps when we loiter on the road. It is very important to keep the road clear at all times.
Corrections:
- Interval time used was based on the same 2 timers used when Ed Morente (rider # 1) left the starting line and at the finish line. The starting time of 9:01 am was not used to time the event but was only the local time when we started the event. So Ed's time was the exact time when he crossed the finish line. Since the order of riders left at one minute increment after Ed, their increment time will be deducted from the time recorded when they crossed the finish line. The result to this correction is an additional minute to the official time.
- Jesse Santamaria and Dennis Gorospe's time were corrected. The results were adjusted to the proper place finish and overall results.
- Jon and Ramon are tied for 1st place overall after 2 events. JC Silva is 3rd place overall.
- El and Jesse are tied for 7th place overall after 2 events.
July 18 - Carson Criterium Series III
Category A Winners:
1st - Elpidio Lardizabal
2nd - Louie Rivera
3rd - JC Silva
Category B Winners:
1st - Rosalie Kneebone
2nd - Dennis Gorospe
3rd - Eric Gosalves
Change:
It was decided to start Cat A Criterium while Cat B was racing. This saved time overall but since it was a late decision, whoever arrived late and didn't make the registration should still be awarded 1 point as a "did not start" (DNS) as referenced in the rules.
Lesson's learned from the Criterium: - Please be attentive when your race is going to start. I also think that the registration form needs to be available to the official to confirm that everyone who signed up are at the starting line, check all race numbers are pinned properly, and do safety checks before officially starting the race.
- It was unfortunate that we had a disqualification at the last lap of the Category A criterium for catching draft from an unregistered rider. We definitely "CANNOT" have other riders race or ride with the group and most important be at the front of the race even if they are riding separately from the peloton. It changes tactics within the race and it also confuses the officials! Even if it was enforced, it was hard to get unregistered riders totally separated and away from the race. We just have to enforce this rule! This is even a lesson learned from the first criterium and will be our lesson learned again!
