Thank you very much for giving the club another wonderful year! As how we contribute precious time, donations, and tireless efforts into our activities and agendas which resulted into a very festive X’mas party! And it’s getting better year after year.

We had more variety of food than any of our previous festivities! Thank you to Marissa, Egay, Abe, and everyone! The potluck list is long! Thank you all! We had more raffle items! Thank you to Francis, Manny, and everyone who donated. Thank you Dennis and Jonas for having Banning Bikes help us out with the raffle items. I think we had enough sodas, water, juice, and ice. Thank you to William and everyone. For the first time, we had an assortment of wine, champagne, sparkling cider, and beer! Thank you to Rosalie, Tim, Pete, and everyone. Thank you for everyone for being social drinker. Thank you to Mandy, Egay, and Jess for taking care of our music and PA system. Thank you to El for the wonderful guitar music. Thanks to Jess, Ramon, and Arnold for the wonderful entertainment!  The Christmas decors were very nice! Thank you to Frank, Dennis, Eric, Ed, Cyp, Arnold, and Rosalie for the decors and arriving early to prepare the place. Thank you Frank for setting us up with a great venue!

We had more certificates awarded compared to all previous X’mas parties! Thank you all for submitting your votes! Thank you all for your numerous accomplishments and contributions to the club. Thank you to Dennis, Manny, and Ed for the wonderful certificates. Thank you to Rosalie for the BAACY trophy. Very nice!

I also noticed more families celebrating with us. Thank you for being with us! You just don’t realize your support plays a big role to the club.

With the swimming pool was just steps around us, I’m glad that no one fell in especially that we had playful kids, a lot of us moving around, and some had beer or a glass of wine. Thank you Arnold for taking care of us!

Overall, it was a very festive mood and this will not be possible without you. That jacket you all awarded me was not expected. Thank you to Manny, our officers, and everyone else for your thoughtfulness. I’m still trying to remember who started calling me Chief. I know Rosalie calls me with that. Joel, Deo, and a few more call me that too! Over time, I didn’t know if I wanted to contradict being called that title! Jesse was our first President for four years and that’s why he is still called “El Prez”! It makes me wonder now what will be the title of the 3rd President, the 4th, 5th, and so on. Kidding aside, yes, as most noticed, if I stalled a little more during that short speech, I would probably have tears. I wish it was cold this night so I could wear it to church with the family!

Without you all, without trusting me being your lead, without all the help you have been giving me, without the lectures I have been learning from you, I’m pretty sure I cannot create progress for the sake of the club. I’m very thankful that Dennis is always there to help me. We had spent a lot of time calling each other ever since we earned our positions. Cell phone calls are still weak from our houses and we usually either run upstairs or outside in the cold nights to get a better reception. Actually, Dennis runs out more! Not to mention calls while driving in traffic! To Ed, what can I say? Taking care of our financial matters is nothing less! He always goes to my house if we need to take care of things. Rosalie, she has always been there, my critic, and my ever reliable online support, not to mention the ADOBkits. She became our Yahoo Group moderator a year after me and she learned it fast! And as our website was learned and built by Mandy, she was able to learn that before I did, and this is only a couple of months after! It was a perfect fit for both of us to become website administrators as well. This changed her title to become our Group Collaborator.

Beyond the our main officers, Manny Amit, Arnold, Abe, Luis, Mandy, Ramon, Egay, El, Deo, and a lot more has been around for me for quite a long time now. Thank you for your endless support! William, Arnold, and Donnie have stepped up also. Thank you for your help.

Most important of all and cannot be forgotten, who started this all for me is Ben Aragon, our Yahoo Group Owner, I think he saw potential in me a few months after our on-line forum was created. Thank you Ben, I didn’t realize it will go this far! I was thanking him so much last night not to realize that he was thanking me a whole lot more especially on how the club is looked upon now.

Another discovery of Ben last Feb 2008, was Rosalie. We approached her to help us out as our additional YG moderator. I remember Ben telling me that having her as a moderator will keep us all in check. She accepted the additional responsibility and quickly learned the forum. And we were really kept in check! She keeps me in check too! I can’t thank you enough, Rosalie! You have a big role and the club will not be this credible if you are not around. Thank you for being on my side for the longest time.

It’s been another wonderful year! The synergy is surprisingly still there! For the next 2 months, nothing much is going to happen except for our scheduled rides. Naturally, there are a few ongoing topics that still need to be worked on the side like club insurance by Mandy, membership roster updates, 2011 membership cards, designing casual shirts, ADOBO Velo frameset and wheel set, more stickers, ASTIG qualifiers from our recent TdF Castaic, and more ADOBOkit ordering.

In closing, let’s not forget to thank our love ones for giving us the opportunity to ride bikes and be with the club. Let’s be safe and enjoy precious times with friends and family. Maraming salamat at maligayang pasko sa lahat!

Louie Jamir, it was nice to see you back!

August 28, 2010 Meeting Notes

posted Aug 31, 2010 9:10 PM by Adobo Velo   [ updated Aug 31, 2010 9:16 PM ]

I didn’t hint that 4 cases of drinks were not enough! Without the potluck food a few of you brought in, we probably can’t make this picnic a feast! Thank you all! It was very nice to see all the coordination flowed as planned.  The attendance was higher that it’s almost like the previous Christmas party! I knew it was a great day! We have a lot of new members that I couldn’t remember most of your names. I know for a fact that I am not the only one who’s having this type of memory problem. If we could only wish that we can add pics to our membership roster.

Anyway, it was a great day. I didn’t even hear a complaint about the ride, so that was great! Let’s just keep in mind that safety plays a big role in our hobby.  The policeman who showed up asking questions was just actually asking if he can also ride with the group sometime! For a few moments, I thought he was going to let everyone know that cyclists are not allowed to park there and we are all gathering illegally!? Anyway, when he started talking, that unexpected anxiety went away.

Thank you Rosalie for preparing the b-day segment, even if you were one of the celebrants! Thank you Dennis for getting the food orders and potluck coordinated. Arnold thanks inventorying our supplies and for scoping out our territory that early. A Starbucks coffee run is not enough gratuities for what you do for the club! Thanks Ed for financial portion. Thank you Julius, Richard Leh, Abe Agimat, Kuya Ricky, and Louie J. for adding flare to our festivities. There’s one member that preferred not to be mentioned. Besides them, I hope I didn’t forget anyone. You all made the day so great! Thank you once again! Happy b-day to our celebrants! It was the first time to include lechon in our menu. Our b-day celebrants were so lucky!

The meeting was very informative of our latest accomplishments and plans. Just give me some time; I’ll post the generic notes in the Announcements webpage. Deep inside, I feel compelled to have some kind of orientation for our new members. But I’m confident that we have active members who have been mentoring them and answering any question they may have.

Overall, I can only rate yesterday as 4 great stars! And I will take the fault for not getting 5 great stars! Believe me I tried! Next time I’ll buy extra drinks! I hope someone can bring an additional “large” cooler for our next picnic! Besides that, hopefully we can have Arland in one of our upcoming festivities.

Next meeting is scheduled for October 9. We’ll strive for 5 great stars!

Sincerely,

Arden

Post 5th Anniversary Celebration Notes

posted May 9, 2010 4:12 PM by Adobo Velo   [ updated May 11, 2010 6:34 PM ]

I would like to thank all of you for making our 5th Anniversary celebration a memorable event. Dennis, I thank you for leading the group photo and for leading the picnic’s logistics. I can't wait to see the group photos on-line. Thanks for braving the ladder, Juliet! And as always, thanks to our Agrezor Duo for taking care of the photos and video, seeing many members gathered for the group photo and seeing everyone though the river bed was a delightful sight. I think we occupied the narrow bike path and went through it safely. Someone jokingly told me to just take the freeway! Anyway, it was a good ride, decent pace, and we safely finished it just in time for the anniversary picnic. I apologize for the undecided route, there were a few who wanted Turnbull Canyon to train for next week's GMR TT, other's thought of visiting Long Beach Bike Festival, and I think most wanted to log in more miles.

Moving on, I think the quality of our picnics has stepped up two folds! The reliable catering from Uyan family, the delicious potluck food, desserts, and drinks you all brought in were so good. Was it Kuya Ricky who picked-up the food? I think this defines our Pinoy-style picnics to a new meaning. We even got Dennis and Frances cooking Paella at the park! Believe it or not, this type of festivities is one of the many reasons why many members keep renewing their memberships year after year. And as the club’s popularity is out, new memberships have increased dramatically since 2009; just try noticing the greater numbers participating in our scheduled rides.

Have you all noticed all other group rides along the beach? These clubs has been around for a while now and they looked like our ride group from a couple of years back. I even saw a small group just after our first restroom break, about 10 of them, all wearing black Capo uniforms where one was waving with his thumb down to us! That just made me smile!

Beyond that, I sometimes feel that we still have that strong synergy we had from a couple of years ago. Just imagine Team Jun Usi... Mr. Guapo himself with the support duo of Lina and Erika! They logged in about 1,000 miles each together if you really think about it! One more Double Century will earn him the Gold 1,000 Mile Finisher title and to finish the last KOM stage on May 29th will award Jun the King of the Mountain Finisher title. Both will be in addition to his 2010 Elite Long Distance Cyclist title for finishing 3 double centuries for the Triple Crown award! And it's not only him… Jesse Santamaria only needs another Double to be our 2nd 2010 CTC Elite! William Aligue, now a licensed USCF racer braves the federation’s sanctioned road races! Fargo Hill Climb was another ADOBO Velo swarmed event with top finishes and Rosalie’s Women's record from last year that may not be broken for many years. Chris Kostman’s Adventure Corps is always delighted to see ADOBO Velo's participate and volunteer in his events. We also had Sikad ng Bayan and Tour de Cure Charity Fun Rides were we had good participations for a good cause.

So more on this month, there’s 3 more double centuries, a KOM stage, Tour of California to watch and volunteer, there’s a Century at Ojai. And most important of all, our sponsorships, our inter-club Time Trial event, us featured on ADOBO Nation TV May 16th show, and the May 23th Tour of California’s Stage 8 ride that Rosalie and Wilson Fonacier are arranging. To add, we will be selling ADOBO Velo logo stickers very soon. Amang Aguila even stepped up to help to get our by-laws started. The discounts that Cytomax sponsorship Wilson F. is working on will be finalized soon. Randy Domingo touched base with me again about non-profit registration, club’s mailing address, and trademarking. In addition, the staff of San Pedro Grand Prix will be delighted to see us volunteer and help during the event on Father’s Day.

Lastly, to Dennis, Arnold, and all potluck volunteers; to Rosalie for endlessly taking care of our ADOBOkit ordering and website updates; to Ed for always taking care of the membership roster and balance sheet; and to members who volunteers and members who get’s assigned a task; all for the development of the club… I’m confident that all 2010 members or not and our Yahoo Group friends are very thankful for all your efforts.  I hope you don't mind me bragging, it just feels super good that we see continuous progress with continuous results.

PS. Come to think about it, your officer’s term is half-way in the 2-year term (President, Vice-President, Club Moderator, and Treasurer positions). May 2009 to May 2010 zoomed by so fast. Give us feedback on how we did and how we can serve you better in this 2nd year. Pretty soon nominations and voting season for these important positions will come. Please start thinking who is “qualified” and have the precious time to perform the responsibilities… popularity cannot be the prerequisite for these leading roles. Volunteering for the full 2-year term is very welcome and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Arden Arindaeng

Club President

Update to ASTIG Qualifier Events

posted Apr 23, 2010 6:57 PM by Adobo Velo   [ updated Aug 28, 2010 7:58 PM ]

To all ADOBO Velo members,
August 28, 2010 UPDATE:
  - Added Santa Barbara Century as an ASTIG Qualifier event.
Thanks.
Arden

August 1, 2010 UPDATE:
  - In addition to the ASTIG requirements below, new members who just accomplished an ASTIG ride may add their prior accomplishments before they became a member.
  - The Title "Update to ASTIG Qualifier Rides" is also update to "Update to ASTIG Qualifier Events".
Thanks.
Arden

In addition to the minimum distance of a double metric century to qualify as an ASTIG, an event with an elevation gain of 8,000 feet and above will also be considered. Because of this agreement between Vice Dennis Gorospe and I, a change and 2 additions to our ASTIG qualifier rides were decided. Examples are as follows:
1. (change) Heartbreak Hundred, a century ride, the 3rd and last KOM event from Planet Ultra will now be included because this event includes 8,000 feet of climbing. The events from the previous years are now officially ASTIG qualifiers. This event has been posted to all finishers since it is needed to earn the King of the Mountain finisher. Next event is on May 29, 2010.

2. (add) AdventureCORPS Hell's Gate Hundred, a distance of a metric century will also be included as an ASTIG Qualifier event because this event includes 8,500 feet of elevation gain. Previous event was April 3. Per results from AC's website: Victor Caampued, Ed Morente, Frank Natividad and Imre Udvardy finished the event as a group after 10 hours and 36 minutes of ride time.  Francis Ignacio, Ricky Herrera and Allan Messarra were volunteers of the event.

3. (add) Another event from AdventureCORPS is the Mt. Laguna Bicycle 101-mile Challenge held last April 17, but with a mind-boggling elevation gain of 10,000 feet! To make it more challenging, it's the toughest and only timed century in San Diego. The Club Challenge is a special mention for those who participated and finished. Rosalie Kneebone, William Aligue, Jesse Santamaria, Mandy Genato and Emry Udvardy participated in the Club Challenge and finished 4th place! Francis Ignacio was a volunteer of the event.
4. (add) Santa Barbara Century was added because it include 9,600 feet of elevation gain. An inauguration on October 23, 2010, participants will experience a beautiful venue of beaches and mountains in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria and Goleta.
The only AdventureCORPS event not considered is the Rough Riders Rally since this is not a road cycling event but a multi-surface cycling festival.
So those are the latest updates to our ASTIG qualifier events. Thank you and congratulations to those who participated in these challenging events and all other ASTIG qualifying rides including those who spent time volunteering. Your training, rides with club members, persistence, determination, and hard work in accomplishing these very difficult events makes it an outstanding feat on a very personal level and does make the ADOBO Velos shine.  Volunteerism plays a big role not only to any participating ADOBO Velo members but to the success of the event as a whole. Per Vice Dennis, all ASTIG qualifier rides are very difficult especially with elevation gains of 8,000+ feet. To be able to do these rides means one would have to train really hard to finish the event. The ride is a culmination of all the hard work and training the athletes had to do to accomplish their goals. Riders who complete those difficult rides deserve to be added on our ASTIG page.
As a follow up to this development, the considerations at the bottom of the ASTIG webpage will be updated accordingly, and these events will be added to the accolades of the deserving members.
Please let me know if I missed other organized events with a minimum distance of a double metric century or with an elevation gain of 8,000 feet as a minimum. Let me know also if you participated in any of their previous year's events while being an ADOBO Velo member and I will confirm and add your accomplishment/s to the ASTIG page.
Sincerely and once again, congratulations to our ASTIGs,
Arden Arindaeng

Padyakan sa Fresno on April 17, 2010

Padyakan sa Fresno 2010
F.A.C.T. Spring Ride

Once again, we are inviting all cycling enthusiasts to join us on April 17, 2010 (Saturday) for a leisurely ride in Fresno as we renew and strengthen old camaraderie.

We intend to make this year's Padyakan sa Fresno a more memorable occasion to meet and mingle, exchange experiences, jokes and pleasantries with new as well as with familiar faces. We shall start at the new park at Maple and Plymouth by 8am riding out on the scenic hills of Auberry road. Then, head west on Friant road until we stop at the Shell gas station at the historic little town of Friant, where Friant Dam can be seen nearby, fed by the now-famous Millerton Lake. Refreshments and warm drinks will be served at this point. Then we head northeast through undulating hills and moderate climbs going to Springville Elementary School at O'Neals. From there, we regroup and we retrace our way back through fast descents towards Friant, head west going to Willow avenue and back to the staging point, where a big lunch awaits us all. This promises to be a pleasing spring day ride and hopefully the sun cooperates with plenty of warmth.

NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.

If you guys are coming ,some of our members are offering our places for you guys to stay over.

Thanks.

ADOBO Velo Race Series Invitation

posted Mar 2, 2010 8:54 PM by Adobo Velo   [ updated Mar 2, 2010 9:01 PM ]

Finally! After all the changes done, we are ready for the Race Series. Thank you for your inputs and suggestions. I personally apologize for the unannounced posts as they were adjusted accordingly. The only item not decided and will be made on March 21 will be the Category B Criterium Race duration.  Our homepage and the 2010 Race Series webpage reflects it and are updated. Besides that, I don’t know what else needs to be done except to make this happen and make it successful! So here we are, see you bright and early on March 21 Sunday at our Carson Crit. Category B registration will start first. As you should know by now, this is only for 2010 ADOBO Velo members but memberships will also be taking place. Non-members who sneaked in the starting line and raced are automatically disqualified and will be ordered off the race. So, if you are not a member or contemplating about renewing your membership, please take care of this even before you prepare.

So far, the only confusion I’m getting is which category you belong to. The details are posted in the webpage. As far as ASTIGS / 2010 members, they will be racing Cat A. If you need to find out who these members are, go to our website. Previous members who are ASTIGS are not permitted to race until their memberships are taken care of. They will also race as Category A once this has taken place.

With all these going on, this will not be possible without the help of all your suggestions, officers, Deo, and William.
I am proud to present our Pinoy Prides Deo Asuncion as our Criterium Director; Wilson Blas and Al Villamil are our Assistant Directors. In addition to these ASTIGS, we are proud to present ASTIG William Aligue as our Time Trial Director. These 4 superstars of ours will be working closely to make this a successful event. And to make it clear, they are exempted from racing in order for them to take care of officiating, assistance, and mentorship. USCF/CBR Cat 3 and above racers are also exempted to race.

So, I’m done working on this till the 21st.  I just wanted to make sure we have enough blank membership forms, have the current list of 2010 members and ASTIGS, and enough paper for registrations and for the officials to writes notes and results.

In the meantime, train hard and be race ready in 3 weeks!
