Adhyatma Ramayan is the Ramayan narrated by Lord Shiva to his wife Goddess Parvathi.The name adhyatma is given to this Ramayan as it mainly related to atmatatva. This Ramayan has been mentioned in Brahmandapurana by Rishi Veda Vyasa.

Though the story of Ramayan remains as such as in Valmiki Ramayan, the speciality of this ramayan is Many who have in contact with him know Ram is none but almighty. In Valmiki Ramayan, Ram says I am a human being and King Dasaratha’s son. Though the rishis know Rama as their supreme lord, they never exposed it, as it is deva rahasya (secret of gods) because Ravana can only be killed by an ordinary man. Here Ravana actually took away Sita by trick due to his ego. But in adhyatma Ramayan Ravana actually wanted to be killed by Rama, so that he can attain moksha, well aware that Rama is the supreme lord,took away his wife so that Rama can come and battle against him. Ravana only pretended to threaten sita , due to ego, but in his inner mind he treated sita as his own mother.

In this Ramayan many slokas as prayers offered by devotees of Ram are mentioned. For example:

Parayer offered by Ahalya after she attains her own image from solid rock,

Prayers (stuti) offered by rishis at ashram,

Prayers (stuti) offered by Kabandha

Prayers (stuti) offered by Jatayu

Prayers (stuti) offered by Indra

Prayers (stuti) offered by Brahma

Prayers (stuti) offered by Lord Shiva etc.

The Adhyatma Ramayan mainly contains many prayers in which it is clearly mentioned Ram is parabrahm.

In this , Devarishi Narada comes to Ram a day before his crowning decided by king Dasaratha, and says if you become king here, who will kill the demons? You have promised earlier to make the earth without demons. Rama says, the crowning will not be done and he will be going to Dhandaka forests the next day. Maya i.e. Sita -created such mind in Mandhara and Kaikeyi so that the crowning will be stopped.

While Sita and Ram were in forests, as they know Ravana will be coming to take her, Ram told Sita to keep her shadow in hut and stay in fire for a year. That is the reason, after the battle, fire test was done to get back original Sita. Even Lakshman did not know this matter.

As Ravan was thinking, the reason why ram has not come to his place even after he bringing sita there, the same night in his dreams Ram told him some monkey's will be coming the next day to destroy the Ashoka vatika. Remembering his dream, the next day Ravana dealt with Sita in a harsh manner thinking the monkey will go and tell all to Ram, so that he will come and kill him.

As Ram and Sita wanted to leave the earth as their vows to Devatas are fulfilled, Ram told Sita who is maya to create apavada (rumor) amongst people regarding her, so that they can leave each other and within a short time they leave the earth and go to Vaikunth. In adhyatma Ramayan this incident comes after Ram ruled the kingdom for ten thousand and ten hundred (eleven thousand) years. In every adhyaya, it is said Ram is Nitya and Nirvikara and only Maya i.e. Sita does everything on his consent.

If one want to learn slokas regarding Rama, they must go through Adhyatma Ramayan. This Ramayan contains seven Kandas inclusive of Uttarkand and sixty four sargas. Total slokas are four thousand and two hundred.
