LOCAL GARDEN DESIGNER’S WORK RECOGNIZED IN DESIGN COMPETITION

The Perennial Plant Association was pleased to present an Honor Award to Adam Woodruff for the 2009 PPA Landscape Award Program. An Honor Award is the highest recognition given in the design program. Adam was in good design company as only three Honor Awards were selected from the 25 entries in 2009. Selected judges comments about the Bank of Springfield design included, "You adapted the design to the client's wishes, which speaks highly of the designer's skill" and "Impressive commercial display of perennials in both design concepts and plant choices".

Clayton, Missouri – The Perennial Plant Association (PPA) has recognized Adam Woodruff, principal of Adam Woodruff + Associates, Clayton, Missouri with a Landscape Design Honor Award for his elaborate flower borders at the Bank of Springfield.  The gardens cover 22,000 square feet on the 3-acre site and include a massive perennial and annual bed running the length of the building’s façade, as well as, several auxiliary flower beds echoing color and texture rhythms.

Each spring PPA members submit landscape designs they have created to be judged for a high level of excellence.  Judges evaluate the designs and select the winning entries based on the creative and effective use of herbaceous perennial plant material.  Entrants were encouraged to highlight new cultivars and introductions, unique planting combinations, and to illustrate the successful manipulation of color and texture in their designs.

The entries were separated into categories based on residential, commercial, educational,temporary/seasonal designs, and price of production.  A jury of distinguished professionals in the areas of horticulture, design, and perennial plants determined which anonymous entries were worthy of receiving a Merit Award or an Honor Award.  Only one Honor Award was presented in each category.
