Adam Hale Shapiro

I am an economist at the Bureau of Economic Analysis. My research is mainly in macroeconomics and industrial organization, focusing on price setting, pricing dynamics, and market structure. Topics include assessing how firms set prices over short horizons, such as the product cycle for a personal computer; as well as over longer horizons, such as assessing how airlines set prices over the course of a business cycle. In other studies, my coauthors and I have examined how competition affects the firm’s ability to price discriminate, the firm's timing of technology adoption, and the firm’s bargaining capabilities. My most recent studies look at these issues in the healthcare sector.
