[4-12-2011] - Valve Wheel Lefty loosey righty tighty. By far the smallest piece of old machinery at Gasworks Park it is perhaps my favorite. Set amongst much taller pipes and smoke stacks its easy to miss this small valve wheel sticking out of the ground. I’ve often wondered what importance it served while the gas plant was still operational, and why of all things they choose to keep it intact as part of the park. I am really rather pleased with the way this exposure turned out. The vignetting is some of the darkest and most prominent I’ve seen produced from my Holga 120N. I haven’t experimented much with the different focal lengths images on the lens, assuming they don’t actually have much affect on the image. For this shot however I did decide to move it away from the mountains and to the single person setting as the camera was about 3 or so feet from the subject mater. One of these days I’ll get around to doing some test exposures on the different settings to see what results they produce. Four Stop Valve
Having no tripod, and too much coffee, made getting this picture difficult. The four rocking valves of a factory steam engine (With a twelve foot flywheel) moving in an idle speed of 45 RPM. When moving that slowly, it's pretty cool (and scary) how quiet they can be.
