At Active Care Physical Therapy, we treat each and every one of our patients, gym members and athletes individually. Every person we see, and every injury we see, is unique and different. We do not subscribe to protocols, nor to any one method or theory of rehabilitation. We start our visit with a thorough patient history, followed by an individualized and focused examination. We finish our evaluation with mutual goal setting, because our patients are active participants in their treatment, and our therapy goals must be meaningful for our patients in order to be successfully achieved.
Stephen has had extensive training in Manual Treatment Techniques, including Maitland, McKenzie, Kaltenborn and Paris techniques, as well as being knowledgable of the use of massage, chiropractic and osteopathic techniques. Our clinicians utilize their knowledge and skill in these various techniques and apply them uniquely for each patient based on individual examination findings and individual tolerances. We also use posture training and core stabilization techniques, and incorporate these into the total patient care program. When beneficial for our patients, we will incorporate the use of modalities such as hot and cold, parrafin, ultrasound, biofeedback, iontophoresis and electrical stimulation, into the total care program along with manual treatment techniques, massage, functional training and progressive resisted exercise.
At Active Care, we also investigate other physical limitations or deficits that may be inhibiting a patients' progress, such as flexibility, strength or endurance problems, and endeavor to correct these functional issues as well. By looking at the patient as a whole being, we attempt to improve the patients overall function and quality of life, and not just treat the localized injury.
Each patient is informed about their injury, and the expected progression they should experience. However, each patient is also given information about posture and core stabilization, and how maintaining stable neutral postures can help them in improving their performance of their every day activities and work. Stephen feels that educating his patients about their condition and expected recovery is an integral part of a successful rehabilitation program, and that it is probably the most important thing we can do for our patients. Stephen has been an educator his entire career, in formal curriculums and in presenting continuing education courses for health care professionals. Stephen feels that educating his patients about their condition and expected recovery is an integral part of a successful rehabilitation program, and that it is probably the most important thing we can do for our patients in the clinic. He has also been active in community seminars on various subjects, and is convinced that educating the community at large about fitness and injury prevention is a way he can give back to his community and its members, who are his neighbors and friends. |
