Start your search for web sources with these subject guides and directories that have been created by librarians or other educators.
  • Great Web Sites for Kids - sites selected by the American Library Association for elementary students through middle schoolers
  • Internet Public Library for Teens or for Kids - a searchable and annotated subject directory of Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians
  • KidsClick! - a "web search for kids by librarians"
  • Thinkfinity - free homework help, online learning games, and student resources--all reviewed by the nation's leading education organizations to ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date, unbiased and appropriate for students. 
 
Great Prairie AEA and Iowa AEA Online provide you access to several reliable resources and databases for your educational needs--all for free!

Remember, the library has reference books in print, too...and sometimes, it takes less time and is just as easy to find what you need in a book than online!

  • Ask.com or Ask for Kids - rank is based on # of subject related pages linked from
  • Google - rank is based on popularity (# of pages linked to it)
  • Yahoo or Yahoo for Kids - rank is based on relevancy (occurence of items)
  • Altavista - rank is based on connectivity of pages
  • Dogpile - combines the best of different search engines
  • MSN - rank based on amount paid for rank.
