  • A form of steel containing chromium, resistant to tarnishing and rust
  • In metallurgy stainless steel, also known as inox steel or inox from French "inoxydable", is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5 or 11% chromium content by mass. Stainless steel does not stain, corrode, or rust as easily as ordinary steel, but it is not stain-proof.

Bishop Tuff and Sherwin Till
Bishop Tuff and Sherwin Till
Bishop Tuff and Sherwin Till. This roadcut along U.S. 395 about 10 miles north of Bishop clarified a small geological question - the age of the Sherwin Till, deposited by the earliest Pleistocene glaciation in the Sierra. It is almost always difficult to establish the age of glacial events with precision because they don't produce material amenable to radiometric dating. At this site the Bishop Tuff sits atop a layer of till from Sherwin Stage glaciation. The tuff is a massive unit produced by ash falls and ash flows during a volcanic eruption 760,000 years ago. This contact places an upper boundary on the age of the Sherwin till. Note how the decomposed till supports more vegetation than the tuff. The crest of the hill is covered with a thin layer of gravel from Tahoe Stage glaciation about 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. The vertical structures are clastic dikes, formed when the Tahoe gravel filled extension fractures in the tuff. Mono Co., Calif.

There's nothing written on the back of this photograph. The one thing I'm sure of is that it is not a photo of Tuff's Todd Chase. I think it is of one of Todd "Chase'' Chaisson's brothers Gregg or Kenny. All three brothers played bass, so the instrument is of no use in identifying this photo, but I'm gonna guess that this is Kenny, bassist for, among other bands, Keel.
