Hard labour defines this man and his animal here at Bhag Nari, Baluchistan. Although many Baluch are not as hard working as a common Pashtun or Punjabi, yet Baluchistan's arid conditions forces him to be on his toes most of the times. This being one example. At the time of the shot, Sarsoo oil was being squeezed in this centuries-old method where camel moves round and round for hours, which helps in squeezing the oil out of the seeds. The oil thus produced is fresh and so sweet that you can't resist having it on your hairs. I did. And I was over-joyed. Unfortunately, modernization is taking its toll on ancient customs and practises such as this one. I hope this one survives. For the sheer sweetness of hard labour achieved in this process cannot be achieved by any machine.

Oil & Water Setup

A few people have asked how I do the oil & water pics I've been posting. Here is my setup. I'm lucky enough to have a glass top side table to put the bowl on. I use a Tamron 90mm macro lens, all settings on manual. I got the basic settings from the YouTube tutorial I posted a link to but for me ISO 800, shutter speed 1/320, f7.1-8 seem to work pretty well - I have deviated from those settings too, so it's just a matter of experimenting until you find what works for you. I'm sure you can do it with a macro setting on a point and shoot with a little playing around. Interestingly I'm finding that I get my best results in the evening when the ambient light is pretty low. Hope this bit of info helps! ;D
