Research
My areas of interest in research have undergone some swings. Artificial Neural Networks was the beginning point, for some time it centred around Image processing. I have also been a co-supervisor with my mentor and Professor, Dr. K.P.P. Pillai in two works in Electrical Engineering, involving Finite Element Methods in electromechanical field analysis. Like wise, I guide one study each in Malayalam Speech Processing and also Holographic Memories. Of late I have narrowed down to specific topics and no longer attempt to have one-off other interests. The areas are:
- Genomic/Proteomic Signal Processing (Application of DSP to analyse gene and amino acid sequences, investigations using Fourier, Wavelet and Fractal/Lacunarity analysis and also entropy measures). Specific problems studied include gene finding, protein sub-cellular localization etc. Await a list of classic references in GSP.
- DNA/Protein Sequence Compression. Soft-computing methods feature ..... , ....in the fixed pattern classification stage.
- Applications of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Non-negative Matrix Factorisatio (NMF) in Micro Array Gene Expression Data Analysis. Await is a list of classic references in this area.
- Hidden Markov Models applied to miRNA studies.
- Chaos Game Representation of Bio-sequences.
Please see the publications link to see research publications of myself and my doctoral students. Also download some helpful documentation on research:
