Recent News and Legislation

Less than three years ago, the Combating Autism Act of 2006 was signed into law. (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s109-843), Since that time, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services created the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) in 2007.

Currently, they cite the following as their mission:
  • Facilitate the efficient and effective exchange of information on ASD activities among the member agencies
  • Coordinate ASD-related activities
  • Increase public understanding of the member agencies' activities, programs, policies, and research by providing a public forum for discussions related to ASD research, screening, education, and interventions (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, http://iacc.hhs.gov/)
This relatively young committee (not yet in operation for two years) represents a wonderful step in the right direction, and should be an invaluable asset to this growing population.
