A Note to Parents & Guardians...
Welcome to First Grade!
It is once again time to track-out! Below, I have listed essential objectives that we have been working on during first and second quarters. I strongly recommend that you work with your child to help review and reinforce these skills so that your child retains their knowledge and is prepared for learning when we return in November! Be sure to check out the useful student and parent links.

2nd Quarter Essential Learning Objectives:

Reading fluently with phrasing (familiar re-reads help build fluency)
-
Decoding words using beginning and ending sounds—(pick out Word Families)

Read, read read!!!

Review second quarter “snap” words (aka high frequency words)

Self-monitor for meaning while reading unfamiliar words
-
Write Small Moments stories with a beginning, middle and end
-
Write detailed stories that are focused on a central topic

Review reading and writing numbers from to 60
-
Order numbers from least to greatest (Ex. Write the numbers 45, 13, 27, and 25 in order from least to greatest.)

Count objects using groupings of 2s, 5s, and 10s

Practice drawing and counting tallies

Solve problems involving the calendar (Ex. Today is Wednesday, November 12th. Bob is having a party on Saturday. What is the date of Bob’s party?)

Fluency with single digit addition and subtraction (Flash cards or games work great)
-
Addition word problems (Ex. Sally had 2 pens. Rob gave her 2 more pens. How many pens does Sally have now?)

Identify shapes, such as a parallelogram, trapezoid, square, rectangle, and hexagon

Create, identify, and extend patterns
