Faces of Athens- Sociology Project Ohio University grad student and body builder, Scott Nykl, poses with his weekly water intake on Monday, May 12, 2008 in his apartment in Athens, Ohio. Originally a high school runner and basketball player, Nykl has been training in body building for the past 7 years. He trains 6-7 days a week for 3-4 hours at a time. As part of his diet and staying hydrated, Nykl's weekly fluid intake includes 20-25 gallons of water, 5 gallons of milk 7-10 20 oz. Gatorades, and 15 protein shakes. This June Scott Nykl will have earned his Master's in Computer Science. He has been accepted into and will begin Ohio University's Computer Science PhD program in September. This photo of Nykl sitting with his weekly water intake, is a photo that stands a status symbol. Moreover, his water intake alone, the sight of 25 gallons, is a symbol of the body building/social group Nykl has placed himself in. His muscular stature does the same, identifying him as a middle class bodybuilder. In less visual ways, his masters degree in computer science and future involvement in the computer science doctorate program here at Ohio University. By getting such high levels of education, Scott Nykl is raising his social status and his ability to be successful in the workforce once he's out of school. 6/365 - Who am I? : A Student
I am studying Sociology, Psychology and Travel. I want to be educated, I want to know more tomorrow then I know today. At the moment I am reading up on Sociology and how you define it within the perimeters of science. With reading like that I prefer having a glass of wine... or like tonight there were some fireworks outside my window and so happens one was going off at the same moment my self timer went off and I was busy looking at it :D Today I've done something. I went out shopping and went to a library a friend of mine works at to do some photographing! I really did enjoy it! It was nice to get something done. In about a year and a half I will probably done with my degree in travel... that means I will be qualified to work on travel agencies as a consultant. It's just an added bonus for me to have the qualifications :) Similar posts: mount royal college degrees elementary teaching degree degree electrical engineering master degree in development studies pharmacist degree online engineering degrees degree college for women |
