The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success
The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success
The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success By Brian Tracy Berrett-Koehler Publishing, June 2000 ISBN 1576751074 300 Pages Overview Human potential expert Brian Tracy has applied many laws of effective self development to the field of business and created a fascinating and easily understandable guide that can enhance both your personal and professional life. He explains each of the 100 laws in theoretical detail and then applies them to various aspects of business, career enhancement, creativity and financial reward. These laws are from Tracy’s speaking and consulting experience throughout the world. Some of these laws may sound unusual or even controversial when you first read them. Eventually many people will agree that these laws are similar to laws of physics, mathematics, mechanics or electricity. They are neutral, neither positive nor negative. These laws are indifferent to your personal beliefs, preferences or desires. Besides describing the laws, Tracy provides tips for how you can apply that specific law to your own life. One of the basic concepts expressed throughout the book is that if you do what other successful people do, you will get the results that other successful people get. And if you don’t, you won’t. Generally, you are successful in business and in life to the degree to which you find out what works and then apply that principle whenever and whenever it is appropriate to get a particular result. This book is designed to give you ideas and strategies that have been proven to work.

Learning the Lingo
I think getting into business requires a degree in urban planning, or it should. Owning a business in a downtown environment is in my heart. In fact, that’s the thing I loved about one of my friend's boutiques. He involved a lot of local stores and did a lot of community marketing while he was there. But a road project began shortly after he opened, and it really hurt him. That's a cautionary tale. I know that’s a risk. It’s easier to sell things in a shop that’s hanging off the apron strings of King Soopers. But seriously, that’s not where my heart is. In Georgia terms, I'm a Marietta Square sort of gal. I am a sucker for places like that. But I know they are risky places to do business. I know that *I* don’t even shop in them regularly. But I like the thought of singlehandedly revitalizing a downtown neighborhood! And it does give me food for thought about where I do my own shopping now. There are alternatives to the big stores everywhere. They need help. My friend in real estate led me to look for each city's long range improvement plans. I haven't found them all yet, but in Ft. Collins, they call it the Urban Renewal Authority. If I’m interested in a settled community, particularly one that might come out of the recession a little rough around the edges, it will be a good idea to keep up on where the city is spending its renewal money.
