As per the Supreme Court Order 2007 and the Notification of the Election Commission of India, No.509/110/2004-JS-I, dated 26 October, 2007

Priority for entering Polling Stations and necessary assistance

The Personnel at the Polling Station should ensure that physically challenged electors are given priority for entering the polling station, without having to wait in the queue for other electors and all necessary assistance as may be required should be provided to them at the polling station.

Facilities for Voters using Wheelchair

Full facility should be provided for such electors to take their wheelchair inside the Polling Station. In the Polling Stations where permanent ramps have not been provided, temporary ramps should be provided.

Facility of Braille signage on the EVMs

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Braille to enable visually impaired voters.

The voters can ask for a dummy ballot sheet in Braille from the Presiding Officer of the booth. The Braille paper will contain serial number, candidate's name and the party's name. He/she will be able to note the desired candidate's serial number and push the correct button on the EVM.

Companion to accompany Voters with Disabilities

A companion should be permitted to accompany a disabled elector to assist him/her to cast the vote, in case they need.

Courteous behavior towards disabled voters

Personnel are to be sensitized about the special needs of disabled people, for courteous behavior towards them and for providing necessary support to them at the polling station.
