- is a licensed professional with a doctorate degree in psychology and who provides psychiatric services and psychological testing, but in Rhode Island, cannot prescribe psychotropic medications. They are trained in research, assessment, and the application of different psychological therapies.
- The Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree is an American professional doctorate earned through one of two established training models for Clinical Psychology. The Psy.D. degree is an applied clinical doctorate on the same level as (in alphabetical order) Au.D. (Doctor of Audiology), D.D.S.
- Practitioner-Scholar Model of Clinical Psychology (PsyD), focuses on therapy and counseling practice. It does not focus on the research, like a PhD, but rather on practical work and examinations. It takes 4-6 years, after the completion of a bachelor’s degree. Psy.D.
